I worked as a UI/UX design intern this semester at Wadhwani AI. This internship was from June to Dec.

How did I get Selected?

The selection procedure consisted of an assignment followed by two interview rounds. I was given a problem statement for which I designed a derma care solution.

“Using AI how can we solve the problem of access to quality healthcare across the country?”

My Work Responsibilities

  • Developing an understanding of the end users through secondary and primary research.
  • Preparing and presenting designs, wireframes, and prototypes to internal teams and key stakeholders.
  • Delivering the design solutions to stakeholders, defend design decisions and incorporate feedback into the design cycle.
  • Identifying and troubleshooting the UX problems.

The projects I am working on

The project I am principally working on is an AI-based Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS) which is being developed for the eSanjeevani platform, an initiative by the Ministry of Health as a part of Ayushman Bharat.

I was involved as a UX researcher to create an AI-based solution for Integrated Disease Surveillance Program (IDSP).

I am currently working on a solo project which is a crucial part of the CDSS application where I am designing a platform for doctors to conduct OPD consultations using AI-based recommendation system for diagnosis and treatment.

My Activities, Learnings and Challenges

1.Primary Research

I conducted interviews with various stakeholders for CDSS to understand about their behavior and pain points.

I also went on a field visit to Lucknow and Gujarat to understand the public health eco-system.

The challenge was to observe without any personal bias while keeping my questions open ended for productive answers.

2. Secondary Research

I performed desk research for IDSP project to understand its implementation in India and other parts of the world.

I also did competition analysis and created user flows for CDSS. I used FigJam and Miro as my principle tools.

The challenge was to do quantity research to support my insights and assumptions.

3. Wireframing and Prototyping

I used Figma for wireframing and prototyping my designs and animated them using ProtoPie.

Challenge was to not stick to the first version of my design and practice iteration according to the usability study.

4. Usability Testing

I tested the application prototype with identified stakeholders to check for it’s usability and effectiveness.

Challenge was to keep the bias aside and cater to the needs of the users while keeping in mind their differences in terms of financial freedom, education, locality etc.

5. Keeping the internal Stakeholders in loop

Creating documentation and Presentation to keep the internal team members such as engineers, solution managers etc in loop with the progress weekly.

Challenge was to create the presentations with only selective insights that were important enough to create an impact.

Conclusion

All in all, it has been a great experience filled with learning and application of my knowledge.

Along with UI/UX design, I have also learned soft skills such as collaboration, teamwork, effective communication, time management etc.

Hence, I would like to thank CSE department, Bennett University for giving me the freedom and support to apply for this opportunity as part of our learning curriculum.
